When I was 8, Wilson Phillips inspired me to start singing. My neighborhood friends and I would sit for hours listening to their cassette tape and recording ourselves belting out "Hold On" and "Release Me" on my little boombox. In college, Jason Mraz inspired me to pick up a guitar. I took a few lessons before I decided it would be quicker just to teach myself. Shortly thereafter, I began a career as a music therapist that allows me to use both of these instruments every single day, in order to help people better their lives.
My own personal music therapy is songwriting. Not the songwriting I do for my clients, but that which I do for myself. At first, it really was just meant for my own ears. But in 2008, I took a huge leap and played my own personal songs in a crowded bar for everyone to hear. It was terrifying, exhilarating, and empowering; I couldn't wait to do it again. So I did...and I haven't stopped yet.
So what continues to inspire me? Other musicians who put themselves out there and let me learn from them. The excitement of an unknown future. Encouragement from my "audience" in the form of applause, kind words, visits to my website (that means you!) and downloads. Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me better.
